Hello Spring! Community Fair
City of Washougal Welcomes Spring with New Event
Spring is here! On Saturday, April 30 the City of Washougal encourages residents to pitch in and clean up litter around their neighborhoods, then spend the afternoon at Hathaway Park for the Hello Spring! Community Fair from 12-3pm. This inaugural event features educational activities, giveaways, free food and more.
“The City of Washougal is very excited to host the first annual Hello Spring event,” noted Community Engagement Manager Rose Jewell. “This event provides a wonderful opportunity for everyone to spruce up their own neighborhoods by picking up litter and spending an afternoon enjoying food and fun educational activities. So let’s learn and laugh with each other!”
This event brings together several community organizations to educate and entertain residents on all things spring. The City of Washougal’s Water Department will be generating awareness on water conservation. The Parks Board of Commissioners will educate the community on the City’s new Adopt-a-Park program and park maintenance. Waste Connections of Southwest Washington will be giving out recycling, garbage, and yard debris information. Washougal Community Library will host a craft tent. American Red Cross Cascades Region will share safety information about the Sound the Alarm program, an initiative to install 50,000 smoke alarms nationwide. There will also be a Passport to Spring activity where kids visit booths around the event and answer multiple choice questions to get a stamp. When they get a minimum of 10 stamps, they can bring their card back to the City Hall booth for a prize.
City staff is pleased to partner with the WSD Culinary Services to provide 600 free hotdog lunches to event goers. Students from the CTE program will prepare the meals at the Hathaway Elementary kitchen. Meals are first come, first served, while supplies last. The City also wishes to thank IQ Credit Union for providing cotton candy.
Other community partners at the event include Camas Washougal Pickleball Club, Camas Washougal Rotary, Clark County Mosquito Control Board, Columbia River Arts and Cultural Foundation, Frito Lay, Meals on Wheels People with the Washougal Senior Association, The Paint Roller, and West Columbia Gorge Humane Society.- 799 25th St
