Buegbrennen 2024
FREE EVENT!
Belgium, Wisconsin is proud of its Luxembourgish roots and continued connections to the country of Luxembourg, and are thrilled to be bringing the European custom of Buegbrennen to the United States.
In this custom, Luxembourgish villages gather together old Christmas trees, pallets, and brush, (the “Buerge”) and use them to build a gigantic bonfire, in hopes of burning away winter and welcoming in spring. The fire is lit by the most recently married couple in the town, and the townspeople sip Glühwäin (mulled wine) as they watch the blaze.
While us Wisconsinites know how to enjoy winter, most of us are ready to kick Old Man Winter to the curb come March, so let’s give it a go!
Please join the Belgium Tourism Committee in celebrating our very first Buergbrennen at Buechler Farms in Belgium on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 from 5 pm-8 pm. (Rain Date will be Saturday, March 9th).
We are appreciative to Ongna Wood Products for the donation of 800 PALLETS (!!) to create our Buerg for this year, to Lanser Towing & Garage for transporting them to our burn site, to Buechler Farms for hosting this new venture and Buechler Construction for building this year’s castle structure. We also want to thank Belgium DPW, who donated the live Christmas trees set by the curbs after Christmas to our Buerg this year, and the Belgium Fire Department for helping us keep this event safe.
FREE admission. Free foam light sticks for the kiddos. In addition to vendor shopping, food & beverages will be available for purchase.
